Bronze Medallion

Previous ◁ | ▷ Next

For decades, the Toronto School Board awarded a bronze medallion to any student who completed 4 years of "good conduct, punctuality, regularity and diligence". (After 8 years they got a silver one.) In practice, most students got the bronze when they completed grade four. The medallions themselves only changed a few times over the years and hence they are fairly common.

The stands were just that - stands - and never changed. This is the exception. For one year only - 1935, the silver jubilee of King George V - the stand was changed to celebrate the event.

That plus its age makes this particular bronze medallion quite rare.
