Silver Souvenir Spoons

This is just a small sample of the hundred or so spoons that we have. Most of them are sterling silver and many have enamel on the handles - a few have enamel in the bowl as well.

The heyday of souvenir spoons was from the 1880s to the 1930s. Unlike the souvenir spoons that are sold to tourists today, most of these were crafted from sterling silver and were frequently works of art. They were used to commemerate locations, events and even political campaigns. Most of ours are Canadian.

Many offer a window on the past, such as those that come from communities that no longer exist or have been swallowed up by larger neighbours. They display the pride and ambitions of their communities to grow in importance.

They range in price from $5 to more than $100.
