This picture appears in a book of poetry which was illustrated by the Victorian artist Ernest Wilson. The book was titled The Harvest Fields and was published in 1886. The picture accompanied a poem entitled ‘The Evening Brings us Home’ by Frederic E. Weatherly. The picture appears to have been painted in a pointilistic technique (see pictures).
I believe that this piece was printed separately from the book because the paper is thicker than would have been in the book, but it was likely printed at about the same time. Others who have examined it suggest that it was printed using a chromolthography process in which 3 or 4 shades of brown and gray have been overlaid on each other.
It is framed under glass with black tape which is a depression-era technique to inexpensively frame art. The tape is worn at the corners but the picture itself appears to be in excellent condition. It is 6 1/8″ x 7 7/8″.

Re shipping. When you check out you will be quoted a price for the shipping based on your address and the estimated physical size and weight of the package.
All items destined to any country outside of Canada (including USA) will have tariffs applied (percentage of the item’s value depending on the country of origin) and brokerage fees (approx $2).
Items destined to the USA require a label or mark stating the country of origin – in many cases vintage items aren’t marked and I may have to physically attach such a label myself.
I use Chit Chats, a Canadian shipping company that shops around for the best rates from both public and private sources worldwide.
