Given the wear on the inside and the fact that there is minimal decoration on the inside and exuberant decoration on the outside I conclude that this bowl was made to be used – and it has been used extensively. It was likely made by a local pottery for domestic use – not for the tourist or collector market or for export. It is made of terra cotta clay with a clear glaze. The 5-colour slip trace design, which is typical of that part of Europe, has been applied quickly and without a lot of precision.

It is 9.5″ in diameter and a bit over 4″ deep. The inside has several spots where the glaze has worn off and there are numerous spots on the rim where the glaze is chipped. There are a few glaze chips on the outside and a few scratches but no cracks. It displays beautifully.

Re shipping. When you check out you will be quoted a price for the shipping based on your address and the estimated physical size and weight of the package.

All items destined to any country outside of Canada (including USA) will have tariffs applied (percentage of the item’s value depending on the country of origin) and brokerage fees (approx $2).

Items destined to the USA require a label or mark stating the country of origin – in many cases vintage items aren’t marked and I may have to physically attach such a label myself.
