This little book was written in the 1600s and has been in print ever since in numerous editions and translations. This 1874 edition of Francois la Rochefoucauld’s “Maxims and Moral Reflections” appears to be reprint of a 1775 translation from the original French. The book is hardcover with 140 pages plus a bonus of 48pgs of publisher’s ads which are fascinating in their own right. Many of the ads are illustrated. It has brown cloth cover with a leather spline (likely a later addition). It has a black and white frontispiece portrait of the author.
The book is 6.25″ x 4.75″. It has slight cracking to the hinges and gutters with some exposed netting but all the pages remain attached. Pages have light tanning and slight foxing. There is an ink inscription in front dated Oct 1876. The boards have light shelf-wear with bumping to the corners. See pictures.

Re: shipping. I am now using an alternative carrier for most of my shipments and most are now tracked, insured and faster. However, this carrier does not have a shipping calculator that integrates with Etsy so shipping calculations are still from Canada Post. Timeframes will generally be faster and the rates will usually be less than quoted. As a result I am making partial refunds on about half of my shipments – on bulky items to the USA, refunds can be in the double digits.
