The title and the description of this item are derived from a Sotheby’s Auction listing (https://www.sothebys.com/en/auctions/ecatalogue/2006/the-frits-philips-collection-am1025/lot.265.html). The auction was held in Amsterdam on Dec. 4, 2006. There are no pictures of the auctioned item but the size, the description and especially the mark fit this item to a “T”

“Height 13 cm, the baluster-shaped body incorporating foot rim and turned with concentric lines, the thumb rest with twin hinge, the cover cast with central boss and struck with the initials L.B., the underside struck with a Tudor rose and the initials I.H.B., rich grey patina”

The auction listing also gives references. It sold for 1,680 Euros.(Can$2,000).

The piece I am selling has no initials on the cover but these were probably from the original owner. I’m starting this piece at Can$890.

It is 5″ high (13cm) and 2.5″ diam at the bulge. It has numerous bruises and some shallow dents around the bulge (not surprising for something that is 300 yrs old). It has some calcium deposits on the inside but the lid, the hinge and the handle are all intact and functional. Remarkable condition for its age, especially for a soft metal like pewter.
