This piece of wrought iron hardware likely dates from the first half of the 1800s, maybe even earlier. This is half of a pintle-gudgeon hinge. The pointed end of this would have been hammered into one of the main timbers framing the door of the barn and the pintle would be attached to the door. See the two pictures from old barns which show how it would work. You don’t find many of these – once they’re hammered in they don’t come out -except when the timber has rotted away are the barn burns down to the ground. It is 8.25″ long with a 5/8″ diameter pintle hole. Condition: rusty but solid – see pictures.

Re shipping. When you check out you will be quoted a price for the shipping based on your address and the estimated physical size and weight of the package.
All items destined to any country outside of Canada (including USA) will have tariffs applied (percentage of the item’s value depending on the country of origin) and brokerage fees (approx $2).
Items destined to the USA require a label or mark stating the country of origin – in many cases vintage items aren’t marked and I may have to physically attach such a label myself.
